THE PROJECT

Generative Artificial Intelligence is no longer a distant promise: it is already here and is changing the way we think, create, and innovate. But how can businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, derive value from these technologies? How can risks be transformed into concrete opportunities for the future of local areas?

These questions gave rise to AI-GENIALE, a cross-border project that brings together Italy and Switzerland with an ambitious goal: to make Generative AI a driver of competitiveness and growth for businesses in the Insubric region.

The challenges to be faced

Companies are facing new challenges: there is a lack of adequate tools to assess the impact of AI on innovation processes, implementation costs are still high, digital skills are scarce, and there is often cultural resistance to change.

AI-GENIALE responds to these critical issues with a joint approach that combines scientific research, business experience, and concrete tools available to companies even after the end of the project.

Four pillars of intervention

The project is divided into four main lines of work:

  1. To Know: Analyze, with scientific rigor, the link between Generative AI and innovation, mapping real cases and building reference models.
  2. To Experiment: Collect 25 concrete business cases, identifying best practices and critical issues in the adoption of Generative AI.
  3. Tools for businesses: Create practical guidelines, video tutorials, and webinars to support companies in the informed introduction of these technologies.
  4. Training new skills: Create upskilling and reskilling courses, with training modules and pilot webinars aimed at businesses in Lombardy and Canton Ticino.

A cross-border cooperation project

The value of AI-GENIALE lies in collaboration. Working together, between Lombardy and Canton Ticino, means combining scientific expertise, entrepreneurial experience, and development visions to build a shared ecosystem.

The partners involved—ECOLE (Italian lead), ated – Associazione Ticinese Evoluzione Digitale (Swiss lead), LIUC University, and Servizi Confindustria Varese – SCV—are the beating heart of this journey.

The expected impact

Over the course of 30 months, AI-GENIALE intends to:

  • accompany over 120 companies on a journey of learning and experimentation with Generative AI;
  • produce free and accessible tools through the RISICO digital platform;
  • train workers and managers, bridging the digital skills gap;
  • create a replicable model for the informed adoption of Generative AI, benefiting not only businesses but the entire region.
